Growing Base of Mobile Computing Devices Drives the Global Mobile Software Market, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
Growing Base of Mobile Computing Devices Drives the Global Mobile Software Market, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
San Jose, California (PRWEB) March 26, 2012
Follow us on LinkedIn – Mobile software, a key enabler of advanced sophistication and functionality of mobile computing devices, represents a healthy market with growth closely tied to sales of mobile computing devices, such as, smartphones, enterprise digital assistants (EDAs), personal digital assistants (PDAs), handheld computers, among others. Spiraling sales of smartphones is spawning opportunities for the creation of numerous new software applications ranging from security software to latest mobile apps revolving around device customization, internet connectivity, mobile collaboration, and other mobile computer related activities. Modern mobile communications industry is flooded with apps, driven by growing ubiquity of mobile computing devices, app stores, and the continuous battle among device manufacturers to provide unmatched user experiences.
Mobile web applications are forecast to witness the fastest growth in the upcoming years thanks to the increasing use of mobile Internet for Web 2.0 social networking, collaborative and video applications. About 70% of mobile users are expected to use mobile Internet services on a daily basis in the coming years, particularly in the US and Europe. Mobile Internet is widely used for a wide range of online activities that include search, accessing information on sports and news, downloading ring tones, city guides or maps, videos and music, emailing, instant messaging, blogging, visiting social networking websites, among others. Strong growth is expected to stem from the BRIC countries, comprising Brazil, India, China and Russia. There exists vast potential for growth in these regions, given the fact that despite the lower mobile penetration rate, the proportion of mobile internet users as a percentage of mobile subscribers is considerably high.
In the operating system (OS) software market segment, especially in the smartphone sub-sector, Google’s Android, Microsoft’s Windows Phone, RIM’s BlackBerry OS, Samsung’s Bada, Nokia’s Symbian, Maemo and MeeGo, Apple’s iOS, and Linux, and Palm/HP’s WebOS currently dominate the market. The market is characterized by constant product introductions, evolving technologies and design approaches, short product life cycles, aggressive pricing practices, rapid imitation of product and technological advancements, and price sensitivity of consumers.
While the global consumer electronics industry continues to recover, as is indicated by the robustly recovering demand for mobile devices and gadgets, the industry in Europe currently remains nervous about the play out of the sovereign debt crisis drama. Consumer spending, which continues to remain a key pillar of growth in the market, remains volatile and sensitive to shocks. The market, in the Eurozone area, is facing immediate hurdles, such as, credit restriction, consumer indecisiveness and fears of possible collapse of consumer confidence in the event of escalation in the severity of the debt crisis. Amid conflicting news on the success of Europe’s band-aid strategy of containing the crisis, market sentiments continue to swing between hope and concerns. For instance, Greece has been kept afloat by its fellow eurozone countries and the rescue packages has and will continue to help the country avoid a sovereign default on its bond payments into the short-term. Although these short-term solutions do not provide a permanent solution to the crisis and in reality indicates deferring of conclusive, corrective action, market sentiments are nevertheless encouraged.
In Europe, the debt crisis is triggering increased price sensitivity among Eurozone countries. There exist signs of a distinct shift in consumer demand towards lower priced products, as is indicated by the robustly waxing sales of cheaper Android based smartphones and Apple’s steady decline in market share. The trend reflects a shift in consumer purchasing patterns towards low cost models as a result of the pressure exerted by the debt crisis. The impact of the debt crisis until now has only been reflected in the realignment of consumer demand from the premium tier of the market to mid-and- mass market tier. The trend marks an actual expansion in the market at the low-end thus counterbalancing the decline being witnessed in the high-end premium tier. Demand for mobile software is therefore expected to remain steady into the immediate future.
As stated by the new market research report on Mobile Software, Asia- Pacific represents the largest market worldwide. The region is also forecast to emerge into the fastest growing market with a projected CAGR of 16.1% over the analysis period. Mobile Device Management (MDM) Software is expected to experience the strongest growth at a CAGR of 23.3% over the analysis period.
Major players in the marketplace include ACCESS Co. Ltd., Apple Inc., Electronic Arts Inc., Google Inc., InnoPath Software Inc., Microsoft Corporation, MFormation Technologies Inc., Nokia Corporation, Red Bend Software Inc., Research In Motion Limited, Smith Micro Software Inc., Sybase Inc., among others.
The research report titled “Mobile Software: A Global Strategic Business Report” announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of market trends, issues, drivers, company profiles, and key strategic industry activities. Market estimates and projections are presented for major geographic markets including North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Rest of World. Flexiant Reaches Milestone In EU?s ?10.5m Cloud Computing Project
Flexiant Reaches Milestone In EU’s €10.5m Cloud Computing Project
Edinburgh, UK (PRWEB) November 28, 2011
Flexiant reaches milestone in EU’s €10.5m cloud computing project
Flexiant, a leading cloud software and services company, today announced the successful achievement of the first year milestone in a three year €10.5m pan-European technology project.
Optimis, a high profile project to develop the tools needed to run the next generation of cloud platforms, is being delivered by Europe’s leading cloud experts, a consortium of industrial and academic partners, including Flexiant, ATOS Origin, SAP and British Telecom.
Flexiant’s cloud software Extility is powering a secure test bed environment on which to develop Optimis. A demonstration model, using real life business scenarios, is now live and employs the Extility software platform to show how the end product is likely to work.
Optimis aims to create a toolkit that will break down barriers between cloud platforms and allow infrastructure and service providers to easily move cloud based services between cloud platforms – whether public, private or hybrid.
This facility is critical when providers need extra capacity or have problems with their own services. Additionally, when a single provider has a problem, workloads can be moved elsewhere and users will see no change. New entrants to the market will also have an opportunity to offer extra capacity allowing them to compete with more established providers.
Tony Lucas, Flexiant’s founder explains: “The motivation for Optimis is the vision that hybrid clouds will become commonplace as private clouds interact with a rich ecosystem of public and other cloud providers. Optimis is aimed at enabling companies to automatically move services and applications to trustworthy and auditable cloud providers in the hybrid model. The potential for Optimis is incredible and we are extremely proud to be part of such an exciting project.”
Flexiant launched FlexiScale, Europe’s first cloud computing platform in 2007, and is the longest standing independent cloud provider in the world. Flexiant’s ground breaking software, Extility, allows service providers and data centre operators to deliver cloud computing services to their own customers direct from their own data centre.
Cloud computing allows businesses to lease computing power as and when they need it, rather than having to buy expensive equipment. Businesses use the internet to access computing resource from hosting providers who provide a platform to collect, store and process data. The net effect is to drive down operating and capital expenditure while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of each transaction and providing infinite scalability.
Optimis is conducted under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for research and technological development. FP7 bundles together all research-related EU initiatives and plays a crucial role in achieving the goals of growth, competitiveness and employment.
Atos (Spain) is the coordinator of the project. The Optimis Consortium includes Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spain), BT Group (UK), Flexiant (UK), The 451 Group (UK), Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Germany), NTUA (Greece), SAP (UK), the Universities of Umea (Sweden), Stuttgart and Leibniz University of Hannover (Germany), City University of London and Leeds (UK) and from June 2011, Arsys (Spain).

Cloud Computing Experts Set to Spark Price War
Cloud Computing Experts Set to Spark Price War
Hull, UK –
September 21, 2011 (PRWEB UK) 26 September 2011 — The evolution in cloud computing took another twist today as a UK firm dropped its prices to what is believed to be the lowest in the global industry.
Giacom ThinkCloud, which has clients across the world, laid down the gauntlet to its rivals by setting its Hosted Exchange service at £2.95 per mailbox a month.
It is thought to be the first time any cloud computing business has offered such a service for below £3.
The move is the latest evidence of the growing competition between companies offering cloud-based services as they clamour for customers.
Nick Marshall, managing director of Giacom World Networks Ltd, said: “Cloud computing is starting to become almost too affordable to ignore for businesses.
“Most companies are aware of cloud computing but many have failed to see the obvious cost benefits because traditionally prices haven’t been that low. But all that is changing.”
Last week market intelligence provider IHS iSuppli predicted that consumer and enterprise spending on cloud services was set to grow by almost fivefold during the next five years, to reach more than $ 100billion in 2015. China has also announced that it is investing £98billion in cloud computing hubs.
Prices have been falling dramatically – triggered by some of the big players such as Microsoft and Google becoming active in the market.
Nick added: “In the past six months we’ve seen a surge in demand allowing us to apply economies of scale for our full-featured Hosted Exchange service. We appear to have reached a tipping point for cloud computing – people’s fear of putting data into the cloud safely is diminishing as it becomes more mainstream. In fact experts believe most data will be stored in the cloud within just a few years.”
Hosted Exchange provides email, shared calendars and contacts, and push email technology to mobiles. Instead of using a physical server in their building, firms purchase exchange mailboxes from a cloud provider, allowing the business to scale up or down easily without worrying about capacity or in-house expertise.
But competition between providers is intensifying and Microsoft is now offering its own services through the Office365 suite.
Based in Hull, East Yorkshire, the Giacom ThinkCloud (http://www.giacom.com) team has evolved since setting up in 1999 when it started by offering web hosting services. It launched its successful MessageStream email filtering and archiving service in 2005 before developing its cloud-based Hosted Exchange platform in 2010.
It initially traded via resellers and had more than 400 companies selling its products under their own brands but has now successfully launched its own services. Although 90% of Giacom ThinkCloud’s clients are based in the UK, it also has clients across Europe, the USA and even recently the Seychelles.
One of its clients is Russia-based Troika Relocations, run by Irish businessman David Gilmartin. The firm provides help to businesses and their staff relocating to Russia.
David said: “It’s a good fit for our business because we need to access email on the move from various locations around the world.
“Being Moscow based has no bearing on where we buy cloud-based services from – shared calendars, contacts, tasks and of course email works equally as well back in the UK as it does out here.
“The key to moving to Hosted Exchange was to increase our email reliability – you can imagine how important email is to a relocation company like ours – and to be able to do this without any costly on-site expertise.”

Connect Computing Going Enterprise
Connect Computing Going Enterprise
Belleville, NJ (PRWEB) October 12, 2005
Connect Computing launches Enterprise Suite.
Connect Computing, working with Kolab and Linux enterprise solutions, announces a broad range of applications that can be used by medium to large businesses.
This suite of applications can be installed on typical Linux servers and is built on top of the Enterprise level groupware server, Kolab.
Kolab combines IMAP email, LDAP directory, and half a dozen other services configured to work together. These open source applications can replace Microsoft Exchange and Windows Server services. Using Enterprise Level applications means the services can be spread or replicated over multiple servers and domains if needed allowing hundreds or even thousands of users to access the system.
“This is not a box set and takes a week or two to implement. However, it is a far cry from spending months migrating systems,” said Roy Hoobler of Connect Computing. “For larger distributed systems, it might tkae months or even a year to get everything just right, but that depends on the business. We hope that if the business can move in phases, a month or two will be sufficient,” Roy continued.
Most small or medium businesses have no problems paying user licensing fees but as the organization grows, even with 50 people, it can become quite expensive paying $ 100 per user each year.
The basic setup starts at $ 5,000. For migration or customization a company might double or even double or triple that cost, but over approximately 3-5 years the purchase pays for itself. If the company grows to 100 or 200 people the savings can really add up since no additional user licenses are added on. “Our fee to implement the solution covers that first year or two but after that, the savings really add up. Also, people don’t realize that commercial apps may cost $ 5,000/year but consulting, implementation, and support fees are on top of that. Enterprise solutions are not cheap but spending half the budget on licenses doesn’t make much sense.”
Being able to tap into open projects like Thunderbird, SugarCRM, and Jabber (at no additional cost), the company and the users get many more features than standard software providers at this price point.
Kolab and KDE have been gaining market share in Europe. Connect Computing expects systems like Kolab to start gaining momentum in the U.S. Much of their business comes from offering Open Source software developed in Europe and India. As Linux becomes more accepted in medium businesses that want to grow to the enterprise-level, solutions like Kolab and SugarCRM.
Other such products offered by Connect Computing include SQL-Ledger (Germany), NoMachine (Italy), and vTiger (India).

Top 12 Areas for Innovation Through 2025: Pervasive Computing
Top 12 Areas for Innovation Through 2025: Pervasive Computing
Washington DC (PRWEB) December 19, 2007
The DC-based research and consulting firm Social Technologies has released a series of 12 briefs that shed light on the top areas for technology innovation through 2025.
The third innovation brief in the series, “Pervasive Computing,” was written by futurist Christopher Kent, who explains that soon we will live in a world where everything is connected.
“This hyper-connectivity will shift the Internet from the concept of being ‘anytime, anyplace connectivity for anyone,’ to ‘connectivity for anything,” he says.
Here’s why.
Drivers of the new technology
Pervasive computing, or ubiquitous computing as it is often called, is the idea that eventually almost every device or object in our lives will be both “smart” and networked, Kent says.
“This will give rise to ‘the Internet of things’ that will push current trends toward the convergence of computing, Internet access, voice communications, and television–blurring categories of information and communication technology products and services.”
Consumers will be the beneficiaries, Kent believes, for they will have access to devices of various sizes serving different needs, and devices with multifunctional capabilities. Of course, this assumes the spread of wireless broadband communications.
Other technologies are sure to emerge to support new capabilities, he says, including: smartphones, ambient user interfaces, set-top media boxes, fixed and wireless networking technologies, and telematics.
Challenges ahead
Although computing is growing in many areas, Kent points out significant obstacles will have to be overcome before pervasive computing becomes real. Consider these:
Network security. The more things are linked, the easier it becomes for outsiders to access critical systems and information. For example, divorce attorneys on the east coast of the US have begun to subpoena EZpass automatic toll records in order to discredit philandering spouses.
Managing increased data flows. Sensors, RFID tags, mobile networks, and wireless networks all use different protocols for communicating, creating a technological Tower of Babel. A unifying protocol would boost the development–but to date there is none, and so far the benefits of proprietary protocols outweigh the need for open systems.
Costs. Most sensor networks are still being assembled from off-the-shelf parts, making them relatively expensive. Network analysts state that for sensor networks to be economical, the cost of sensor assembly needs to drop to $ 20 from the current $ 100.
Forecasts
What will change the game for pervasive computing? “Advances in quantum computing, smart data, cheap networked computers, low-cost sensors, and other novel developments,” Kent forecasts.
Quantum computing. The massive amount of information that will be gathered and processed to serve user needs will require increased computing power. At a basic level, quantum computing, which replaces semiconductor chips with computation driven by quantum interactions, could help to provide it. Although various elements have been successfully tested to prove the concept, no operational quantum computer has yet been constructed.
Smart data. Breakthroughs in plastics and printing have led to the development of polymer-based microchips, which can be printed as large sheets, in some cases using off-the-shelf inkjet printer technology. These could provide a cheap and easy way to make electronics and promote the distribution of intelligence far and wide, even in throwaway devices.
One laptop per child. You’ve heard of the “$ 100 laptop,” which is essentially a simple and inexpensive computing device with integrated wireless telephone and Internet capabilities. It will bring the benefits of pervasive computing to Worlds 2 and 3. Look to Nicholas Negroponte’s One Laptop per Child project, spearheaded by the MIT Media Lab. For $ 150 per model, it has a scratch-resistant screen, can be read outdoors, and has the networking capability to create a mesh network with other nearby laptops. This function allows users to tap into wider global networks in areas where no connectivity existed–giving users access to education, entertainment, and retail resources.

JAMIS Celebrates a Decade of Success in Cloud Computing
JAMIS Celebrates a Decade of Success in Cloud Computing
Lakewood, CO (PRWEB) June 29, 2011
JAMIS Software Corporation, a leading provider of accounting software for the government contracting industry, is celebrating ten years of success in providing cloud computing services for its customers.
In 2001, before most other software providers in the market, JAMIS saw that the industry was heading in a new direction based on software as a service (SaaS) and cloud-based computing. JAMIS recognized cloud computing as a means to allow its customers to focus on business results while reducing their overall cost of software and limiting the time-consuming aspects of a traditional implementation.
More and more organizations are choosing cloud-based solutions for their business-critical applications. In fact, more than 50% of JAMIS’s new customers choose this delivery option, making cloud computing a major part of the company’s success. “Cloud computing lets us provide JAMIS customers with an optimal combination of security, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness,” says JAMIS president Jeff Noolas. “This combination allows these customers to concentrate on improving their revenue picture while we take care of the details of managing their accounting software. Because we saw this trend evolving very early, we’ve been able to spend the last ten years developing software and systems that enable us to provide JAMIS customers with highly advanced cloud computing solutions.”
International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that cloud computing will be a $ 44 billion market by 2013. Even the federal government is changing the way it manages and buys information technology. In a recent article in the Washington Post, Michael Krieger, the U.S. Army’s deputy chief information officer, discussed the Army’s plans to consolidate 300 of its data centers, saying the move offers the Army a number of benefits, including significant savings, greater security, and more operational effectiveness.
Today, JAMIS offers a wide range of products in the cloud. These solutions include accounting software (JAMIS Financials), labor and expense management (JAMIS e-timecard & e-xpense), Business Analytics, Human Resources Management, Budgeting & Forecasting, Contract Management, and outsourced accounting services (JAMIS Advantage). All of these solutions, which are designed specifically for government contractors, can be delivered in the cloud and hosted in an extremely secure environment.

The product is exclusively sold for $ 14.95 USD at U3’s Software Central download area: http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?ProductId=103&Selection=5.
With the threat of malware escalating on a daily basis, XOFTspy Portable provides protection for roaming users, ensuring that the computer they are about to use is free of spyware, Trojans, keyloggers and adware without having to download and install anti-spyware applications on the local PC/computer. Operating directly from the highly portable U3 smart drive, this security application boasts fast operation and a tiny footprint leaving plenty of space for other applications and data, providing modern computer users with the security they need to carry out their daily online activities, including online banking and the transfer of other confidential information. In addition to ensuring the security of the host computer, XOFTspy Portable Anti-spyware protects the smart drive itself, securing its data and programs, even in cases where the host computer has lost Internet connectivity.
“XOFTspy Portable is a great addition to U3 Software Central as the first portable anti-spyware application for U3 smart drive users,” said Esther Kruijver, vice president of platform for U3. “Now, our customers can take U3 smart drives from PC to PC knowing that every computer they work on is protected by one of the best portable tools designed specifically to fight spyware.”
U3 technology creates a new world of opportunities for USB flash drives, turning simple storage devices into smart drives capable of carrying software, settings and data . The technology allows for ultimate privacy because once they are finished, users can walk away knowing their data is still with them. By utilizing the U3 platform, XOFTspy Portable Anti-spyware can run directly from the U3 smart drive, without having to be installed on the host computer, with one copy of the portable application legally being used to clean multiple PCs.
