PwrSmart Service Adds Apple OS X Support and Remote Wake for Securely Waking PCs Over the Internet
PwrSmart Service Adds Apple OS X Support and Remote Wake for Securely Waking PCs Over the Internet
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) December 08, 2011
New Boundary Technologies®, a 26-year pioneer in providing innovative software and service solutions, today announces the latest updates to its pioneering PC power management solution, PwrSmart® Service. With the addition of Apple® OS X (Macintosh) support and Remote Wake™ for securely waking PCs over the internet, PwrSmart Service gives customers complete control and flexibility in managing the power settings on their PCs.
“With the newest additions to PwrSmart Service, we’re making it easier than ever for organizations to move forward on implementing centralized PC power management,” says Tom Diamond, president at New Boundary Technologies. “Leaving PCs on 24 x 7 ‘just in case’ results in a lot of wasted energy and money. Remote Wake eliminates the need to leave them on. In addition, adding Mac support allows organizations to centrally manage the power settings on all of their computers.”
PwrSmart Service increases energy and cost savings with several new enhancements:
Embracing Macs and PCs
PwrSmart Service now supports the Apple OS X platform, making it possible to manage both Windows® and Mac computers in the same console. In addition to supporting the latest OS X release (Lion), PwrSmart Service also supports the two previous versions that are still widely in use (Leopard and Snow Leopard). Mac computers in PwrSmart Service benefit from all the same power scheme features as Windows computers: standard power options, alternate settings, scheduled events and software exclusions.
Allowing Remote Wake
Today’s workforce is mobile, dispersed and running on a flexible schedule. Workers’ office computers occasionally need to be available after hours and on weekends. Remote Wake gives PwrSmart Service customers the best of both worlds – the ability to power down systems when they’re not in use, and the flexibility to wake them remotely on demand. Administrators simply grant users secure access to Remote Wake for their own PCs. In addition, administrators use Remote Wake to securely wake any managed PC, eliminating the need to leave all systems powered on after hours. Combined with PwrSmart’s scheduled Stay Awake™ feature, Remote Wake gives administrators the ultimate flexibility for maintaining their systems, while still saving significant money and energy.
Discovering Energy Wasters
PwrSmart Service now includes the Energy Wasters report, which is designed to show which computers are not meeting the organization’s goal for time spent in a low power state. The Energy Wasters report gives PwrSmart administrators, analysts and managers the ability to quickly identify these computers and take any necessary corrective action.

Apple and Windows Computers Living Together Under One Roof, According to New NPD Report
Apple and Windows Computers Living Together Under One Roof, According to New NPD Report
Port Washington, New York (Vocus) October 6, 2009
According to leading market research company The NPD Group’s 2009 Household Penetration Study, approximately 12 percent of all U.S. computer owning households own an Apple computer, up from 9 percent in 2008. While Apple ownership is growing, those households are decidedly in favor of mixed system environments. Of those 12 percent, nearly 85 percent also own a Windows-based PC.
Multiple computer ownership is a common thread in Apple computer households, with 66 percent of households owning three or more computers, compared to just 29 percent of Windows PC households. Apple owning households are decidedly more mobile as well, with 72 percent of them owning a notebook, whereas only 50 percent of households that have a Windows PC own a notebook.
Not only do Apple computer owners own more computers (and more mobile computers) than the norm they also tend to own more types of electronics, and more of them, than typical computer owning households. For example, while 36 percent of total computer owning households have an iPod, 63 percent of Apple households have one. And while almost 50 percent of Apple owners own some type of navigation system, only about 30 percent of all computer households own one.
“While Apple owners tend to own more computers and more electronics devices, there is also a high correlation among Apple owners and more affluent consumer households,” said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis. “Thirty-six percent of Apple computer owners reported household incomes greater than $ 100,000, compared to 21 percent of all consumers. “With a higher household income, though, it’s not a surprise that those consumers are making more electronics purchases,” Baker said. “The average Apple household owns 48 CE devices whereas the average computer household owns about 24. Apple household owners’ actions and purchases can be used by the industry as leading indicators for hot new products and adoption.”

-What’s a MTmini?-
————————————-
Don’t have a Multitouch Table yet? Have one, but need something smaller for testing? Building a small portable multitouch pad will allow you to test software and experiment on a smaller scale while building your full table or when away from your multitouch screen. Have fun and make a MTmini! This uses Front Diffused Illumination, with normal ambient light (infrared not required or needed) and a normal off-the-shelf webcam (IR filter can still be in place).
-How’s it Work?-
————————————-
For this to work, all you need is a room with (at least) some light. The results will be best when the room lighting is even (no bright lights shinning from one direction onto the multitouch pad).
When you place you fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they move on the surface.
It’s important to try different lighting setups and to configure the software in order to get the best results.

Osx86 – Mac OSX on PC Hardware
Building a fast & cheap Mac PC from hardware which works with OSX out of the box. For more info, please goto http://www.osx86project.org and look up the wiki on OSX86 to see what PC hardware will work with OSX. Also goto the URL above for questions concerning dual boot, etc.
Also see this great write up on a cheap $200 OSX86 machine here: http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/202/42/
Only thing that needed help was the sound hardware, and even the Network card came up in OSX as an Apple device. My wireless also wasn’t supported, so no airport
But – goto the OSX86 wiki, from what I’ve read there are several wifi cards that work! In fact in one of my more recent videos I show you can make a Belkin PCI card work as the Airport wifi hardware.
I’ve also tested my USB HP Officejet printer (w0rks perfect!)
My Sony Digital Camera (w0rks perfect!)
Burns DVDs / CDs
iTunes Works perfectly
Built in Firewire port? / cannot connect my digital video camera
An even Cheaper solution to building one of these is to use a Celeron w/ SS3
You will have to either have two disks, or partition your HD into two drives to make this dual boot setup I have work, then modify your windows boot.ini startup file so you can boot between OSX & XP like shown in this video.
Please don’t ask me how to make it work, or where to ‘find’ OSX86. It’s on torrentportal.com/torrentz.com (& virtually aLL the tOrrent sites) — the answers to your questions are in both the wiki and in the forums. This system (does not hang on hardware, etc.) it’s very stable once you modify kext drivers and remember to use hardware which is in the OSX86 wiki… See my other video on getting a Belkin PCI wireless card to work as an Airport & enjoy your hackintosh PCs!
BTW: MOrons. If I get another email telling me to pronounce it ‘OS TEN’ i’m going to puke on my Macbook Pro. I’ll say OS X if I want to, it sounds better and it’s a roman numeral it.
