How good of an idea is it to purchase a "refurbished" computer? & what all does that mean has been replaced?
I found a good deal on a Dell computer system. It’s been "refurbished". My pc is dying on me (parts are swelling up in the mother board). It’s getting slower & slower everyday. I have an emachine. I’ve heard, from several people, that emachines are junk. I’d like to get a Dell. I can’t really afford a new one. I found a refurbished one for about $500 less than you’d get a new one, of the same kind, for. Should I get it? What all does it mean has been done to it, when it’s been "refurbished"? Thanks!
a refurbished computer is basically where a person has taken a not so great or worn down computer and replaced parts or upgraded to make it better. If i were you i would make sure that any refurbished computer is coming from a reliable source. It could mean that basically everything has been replaced, or that simply the hardrive, ask the parson what all has been done to the computer this way you know that its not a major lemon.
it means it’s used, but somewhat cleaned up like new again. heck, for 500 dollars less, i’d get it!

Refurbish just means if anythig is clearly broke (like a harddrive) it has been replaced.
Most refurbished items do not come with a warrenty and I would not get one. For 500 you can get a new Dell.

One I would not get a dell if they were the last computer on this planet, they are by far the worst computer that exist and their tech support bites.
What a refurbished computer is, is a computer that is used, that has been fixed up (either they were recycled, sold or sent back to the manufacture). And in my experience they are not all that is cracked up to be. They only have a starting our 90 day warranty, unlike if you buy a new one you get the one year warranty. And from the ones I have looked at. I can get a brand new computer from the same price as a refurbished one.
I would recomend one of these desktops, that are at a good price.

Very bad experence with dell and can give a list of several others that agree with me
If you do go for it, I would make sure that the individual or the company will back their "refurbished" work!! I would be mainly worried about old crap or viruses that they may try and get away with leaving on the computer. Just so you know that this person is legit !!!!
