Build a new PC or buy a refurbished PC ?
I saw this refurbished PC deal on geeks.com
It is a HP Pavilion V1222KR Sempron 3200+ 256MB 80GB CDRW/DVD for $209.99
this is the link http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=V1222KR&cat=SYS
Is this a good deal or should I go to newegg.com and buy the parts and match the spec and build it myself ? Will I save by building a PC or buy the refurbished one on geeks.com ?
Thank you
PC’s are easy to build – build it.

i would reccomend a refurbished PC, just not the one you have a link to
the sempron CPU’s are old and crappy
if you have enough experience to build a computer, youll save a lot of money and newegg is a great place to start, but if you’re not absolutely sure you can build it right, just buy a refurbished(i reccomend an intel celeron or pentium processor, or core 2 duo if you can afford it)

That’s a dang good price but you’ll still need an operating system. Add $150 if you use Windows, the cost of a CD-R if you use Linux.
But it’s also dated technology; don’t get me wrong, it’ll run fine. It has PCI-E so you can upgrade the video later on if you like. A Sempron is… okay. You’re not going to win any races with it.
I seriously doubt you could match this price by building it yourself.

That is a horrible deal. It is woefully underpowered. For $150 more, you can get a very nice Dell. I actually got a free computer (2.0 gHz P4, 256 MB) with no HD. I upgraded the RDRAM (damn hard to find) and put in a new HD.
Go to Dell or HP and look around there. The processor you have is only a 1.8 gHz.

From the information u provided it seems that it is a old sempron 64 on a VIA based motherboard that runs on DDR ram, along with a DVD combo drive. U can get a new Sempron64 with AM2 socket along with a 160 gb hdd along with 512 mb DDR2 RAM running on a NVIDIA 6150 based board with a DVD writer at a marginal increase of the quoted price. So why u r wasting time and money on a useless crap like this and that too is void of any type of warranty?
