PostHeaderIcon What is the average lifespan of a Macbook to a comparable PC Laptop?

I’m currently in the market for a new laptop, as my laptop of 4 years is slowing dying. I was wondering what the average life span of a Macbook is compared to a PC laptop of comparable standards.

Thanks in Advance!
Abacus: I have a Toshiba right now and closing in on the 4 year mark, the fan has died and there is problems with hibernation and general slowing.

Consumer Reports completed an owner survey related to this topic based on 27,000 laptops purchased between either 2001 or 2003 and 2008. The criteria was units returned to shop for repairs. The results placed Mac at the bottom of major brands.

But, wait. The spread from top to bottom was only 3% which CR considered as insignificant. Kinda like sampling error if you are into the population testing thing. Yes, I was. So, what this means is that reliability is not a top consideration. The same major parts manufacturers make the parts for everyone. Only diff is who they bought from that month.

You want to base your decision on personal biases, price, and perceived resistance to viruses. Which may be nothing more than Mac not having enough market penetration to be a decent target for a hard working hacker.

My personal bias is toward Toshiba, which placed at the top of that insignificant spread, along with Lenova.

Macs usually las MUCH longer than PC’s.

They last basically forever. Their parts never die or fall apart.
