I am travelling on a work permit from India to Australia, and want to know-
Can I carry my computer components (motherboard, processor, ram, hard drive, dvd drive, mouse, keyboard) from India to Australia?
My idea is I will buy only a monitor and other big things in australia, to make it work again. Don’t want to invest in costly things like motherboard again.
The goverment websites and customs sites are confusing.

How do I get pc to see laptop as external hard drive?

Need to unformat laptop but of course not install any further information on laptop. So I need to run an unformat program from my main pc but get it to scan laptop hard drive.

I have a crossover cable but its obviously not as easy as plugging it into laptop and pc and away I go, can’t seem to get it figured out.

Done searches but most involve internet which I don’t need.

Just need pc to see laptop as an external hard drive.

Any suggestions?

Sorted it out by myself! Got a 2.5" laptop external hard drive casing, took hard drive out of laptop, into casing, connected with USB and bingo its an external hard drive. Thanks for your answers, some good, some people obviously didn’t read the question.

If you have a LAN to use you can usually see all the computers on the LAN through my computer. So if your PC and Laptop are on the same LAN then the Laptop is just an external hardrive. If you don’t have the tools to do rthis then you might need a workaround.

i work at a computer store, and i can’t tell you how many hp’s come into our service station. Dell’s tend to hold up better if you just want to do basic desktop computing. I can tell you right now that is a terrible gaming computer though. 1.8 dual core is nothing anymore, the ram is a bit low since you’d be getting vista premium, and prebuilt pc’s never come with a decent video card unless you spend thousands of dollars. if you want a good gaming computer, build it yourself. if you wanna do that, then we’ll talk.

For a similar amount of money, I think I can find a used laptop to just put my hard drive into. So does anyone know what other laptops are compatible with my hard drive?

Just find out whether the hard drive is IDE or SATA. Then buy an used laptop that fits IDE or SATA.

Why are desktops better than laptops at gaming?

i can see why up-to-date desktops are better but my Gateway desktop from like the 90’s runs games better than my laptop i got around april of last year. the gateway is using Windows Professional 2000 and the laptop uses vista.

im not exactly sure what the specs on the gateway are but they can’t be better than the laptop can they?

first of all it depends on the games you’re running, BUT

when compared to laptops, desktops normally have faster processors, more ram, and faster hard drives (up until recently laptop hard drives were limited to 5400rpm where as desktop HDDs have been 7200 rpm or greater for a long time.) On top of that, only the best graphics cards can fit into desktops. hence why desktops run games better than laptops.

the size limitation and heat dissipation problems in laptops prevent them from running the fastest processors and having superior ram amounts. as time goes on, laptops will get closer to desktops, but they will never surpass desktops’ ability to run games.
