What is the maximum number of laptops i can run from a single 13a socket?
I have been told that during meetings we are not allowed to link multiway extention leads together to power our laptops and hubs on the meeting room table. I thought that the laptop power adapters only draw a fraction of an amp as do the hubs so therefor you could connect quite a few and still not get to the 13A limit.
To over come this we’ve been told to only connect one multiway adapter to the wall socket, but as the building is quite old it only has a few doulbe sockets so we would have to run the extension leads in from adjecent rooms, Why can’t you buy 6 way extension leads with a 10m or 15m lead?
I now this seems a bit silly but modern health and saftey laws are getting very strict.
By the way the maximum number of laptops and hubs i need to connect would be about 60/70 and at present this is split across 4 double 13A sockets
Any advise welcomed.
Your company is obliged to stick to the line that health and safety lay down. That line is you may not daisychain multiway blocks…
But there is nothing stopping you getting 8-way or 16-way blocks made up with long leads PROVIDING the wiring and fusing is rated to limit it to 13A draw.
Work it out… a laptop is probably under 100watts, you can draw nearly 3Kwatt from a 13A socket… but Health and Safety think you may go plug 30 kettles into your daisychained multiways and cause a fire.
Laptop vs Desktop
http://live.pirillo.com/ – Compucrazed94 is having a little spat with his father: should he get a laptop or a desktop? Compucrazed94 wants a desktop – its power far outweighs that of any laptop he could afford – but his father wants him to get a laptop – which is highly mobile. Which one is better?

Is there an easy way to image 18 laptops to be identical?
I have ran into a jam and need to make 18 laptops identical to one I have setup just like I want it. Does anyone know of software or an external hard drive that will do this for me? I am using maxtor onetouch 4 plus to put images on it and then run a safety boot cd to transfer the image over to another pc, but I have ran into some models not working with this and that’s where I am now. I can’t afford to use norton ghost $$ is tight.
Here are some free solutions, but I have used symantec ghost (enterprise) and it is really easy. I cannot speak for these

What is good reason(s) buy computer instead of laptop other than computers price and a bit more than laptops?
I saw that these days laptops don’t have that much of a difference from computers with their CPUs, so why would people buy a computer these days? Why do you own a desktop?
Desktops have several advantages over laptops:
1- No battery. Even when plugged into an outlet, a laptop’s power is coming from the battery. If the battery is entirely defunct than the laptop may not function even when plugged in. This goes back to the old engineering addage "the more parts there are, the more there is to go wrong."
2- Laptops are harder to service/upgrade. Space, heat, and power consumption are all critical factors in a laptop. Most (98%) of desktops can upgrade a video card with no problem in any of the aforementioned 3 areas. Simply because a laptop is compatible with a graphics card does not mean that it will cool the card efficiently enough for reliable operation.
3- Cost! Desktops offer more computing power at a lower cost. This is due to several factors including space, power consumption, cooling capacity, and ease of design. Laptops are also constructed to a higher standard because it is likely that they will be moving around while turned on. Desktops do not require this as most people set it on their desk and never move it unless it needs service.
4- More ports and drives. Desktops come with a DVD/CD drive as a standard and many will come with a second one so you can copy discs easily. Most desktops will have at least 2 USB ports in the front and anywhere from 2-8 in the back. Laptops come with a single disc drive (if it comes with one at all). In addition, laptops will typically have 2-4 USB ports total.
5- Screen quality. With a laptop, the screen attached to the computer is likely the only one you will ever use. While you can attach a monitor, most people don’t do this. Desktop screens are not constrained by the stringent power requirements of a laptop and usually offer higher resolutions, more HD capable models, lower prices, and better response times (which reduces the "ghost" effect).
