PostHeaderIcon How do I get pc to see laptop as external hard drive?

Need to unformat laptop but of course not install any further information on laptop. So I need to run an unformat program from my main pc but get it to scan laptop hard drive.

I have a crossover cable but its obviously not as easy as plugging it into laptop and pc and away I go, can’t seem to get it figured out.

Done searches but most involve internet which I don’t need.

Just need pc to see laptop as an external hard drive.

Any suggestions?
Thanks Gerblegod, I see ’shared folders’ but ideally need to see a separate drive C: D: E: etc.
MedievalLoser, link dead but thanks anyway :)
Sorted it out by myself! Got a 2.5" laptop external hard drive casing, took hard drive out of laptop, into casing, connected with USB and bingo its an external hard drive. Thanks for your answers, some good, some people obviously didn’t read the question.

If you have a LAN to use you can usually see all the computers on the LAN through my computer. So if your PC and Laptop are on the same LAN then the Laptop is just an external hardrive. If you don’t have the tools to do rthis then you might need a workaround.

PostHeaderIcon Why doesn’t my PC laptop display webpages even thought my network connection says I am connected to internet?

At my apartment we have Rogers wireless, routed through my roommate’s Mac laptop. Although my computer indicates that I am connected to her machine (I typed in the security code), when I try to load pages no pages will load. I have a PC laptop. I have used it to connect to the internet through other Macs, though they were ones with insecure connections. How can I fix this?

This is a little tricky. There could be several problems causing this. What I think your issue is is that you’re not correctly interpreting what your computer is meaning by the fact that it’s connected. If you’re running XP, which I suspect you are, then what you’re viewing as connected actually only means that your computer is connected to the Mac router. Or maybe only the Mac. To get it connected to the Internet, you have to first; directly connect your computer to the router, then see if it automatically detects and accepts it. Then you should be connected. If that doesn’t work, call your internet tech support and have them walk you through opening the DNS ports. If that still doesn’t work, then what you’ll have to do is this. Go into Control Panel. Double click on Network Connections. Find your internet connection, then RIGHT-click on it. Click Properties, then go down to the little window and scroll down until you find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Go down a little further and then click Properties. When you get in there, I’m not 100% sure…(i’m remembering all of this) Anyway, it’s either on the main tab or the Advanced tab….what you want to look for is a page that shows what networks are allowed permission to your computer. Make sure that EVERYTHING you connect to has permission to access, or nothing will work.

PostHeaderIcon How do I network my laptop and PC but hide the connection on my home network?

I am on a home network utilizing FiOS. Both my PC and Laptop utilize wireless connections (as do two other computers), with one main computer connected to the FiOS router.

I want to share folders between my PC and Laptop that the others cannot access or see at all, so that they do not know the network exists. Can someone recommend a good website to give me step by step instructions?

All you have to do is name your network something that the other computers are not and your network will not be seen by them.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best way to send MIDI program change to multiple keyboards? Mac or PC Laptop or other HW?

My wife has a Roland RD700sx, Roland JunoG and Korg CX-3. We would like to be able to capture all program info for the boards for a particular song so she could pull up a song with a single (or minimal) button press. We have a Mac Laptop and a PC laptop or would be willing to buy some sort of master control box if that would be easier. Throw out some ideas.

For software you have Garage Band08 on your Mac – Just record each keyboard in its own track as detailed in the tutorials

if you want something more sophisticated you can either get Logic Studio on Mac or Pro Tools from Digi Design.

Check out Garage Band First.

What should i buy mackbook pro or a pc laptop for same price?, will a macbook pro last long?
is it worth the 1200 dollars? is it good for a highschool student? will it last longer than a pc latop? What do you recommend? what is better? macbook pro has osx snow leapard and looks better than a pc laptop… is it really worth the money………

Hi tg,

Yes, the MacBook Pro is a great laptop. It has a lot of power and is really adaptable to whatever you may want to use your computer for. The great thing about the Mac OS X is that it simply works. There’s no complications, no computer viruses.

I’ve got an old PowerBook, that is over nine and a half years old and it’s using Mac OS X Leopard. I’ve never had any anti-virus software on it and I have yet to get any computer viruses, worms or whatever. So, yes, I’d say a MacBook Pro will last you a good long time.

You get what you pay for. You pay now, or you pay later. Those words are very true about the Macintosh. You pay a little bit extra, but you get a lot for the money. My Son bought his MacBook after years of using Windows and says that he won’t go back to Windows.

The one problem, as you can tell, is that there’s a lot of Windows Nazis out there that really don’t like the Macintosh for whatever reason. The good news is that there’s plenty of nice friendly Mac users out there that are happy to help you, if you have any problems.

Don’t take my word for it. Go to an Apple store or Macintosh dealer and try it out for yourself. Best of luck with your decision, tg.
