What kind of Laptop computer should I buy for my 14 year old daughter for Christmas?
I am thinking about purchasing a laptop for my 14 year old daughter and she has mentioned a Flamingo Pink Dell 1521 Inspiron Laptop? Is this a good computer and if not, what do you suggest?
that’s a pretty good computer. I would suggest the 1520 inspiron though. It’s a little more expnesive, but a core 2 duo processor is the best.
So basically go here:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DNCWKA1&s=dhs
and customize the following:
SYSTEM COLOR: Flamingo Pink
PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
MEMORY: 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
INTEGRATED WEBCAM: Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
Leave the rest at default and it should be a pretty good laptop for her. Keep checking here for dell coupons:

The good coupons just expired ($350 off a $999+ on inspirons). They should post new ones soon.

How much electricity does a laptop computer cost a month?
First 10 points to the smart person who can figure out how much it costs a month for electricity to run your laptop computer plugged in, of course. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Las Vegas is served by Nevada Power or NVEnergy.
Current single family household bundled rate is 0.108 per kWh
Its not simple to determine how much power your laptop consumes but I’ll WAG it.
If you use your puter 5 hours a day, 7 days a week that’s 152 hours. If we assume you consume 250 watts at peak usage, then that’s 37.917 kWh
Standbye is more complicated, assuming you leave it on for the other hours of the day, then its in some standbye mode for 578 hours a month. Assuming your standbye only consumes 50 watts then that is another 28.9 kWh
Total kWh is 66.8 kWh @ $0.108 per = $7.22
Of course this may all be bubkiss for all I know. you need to look at your laptop and see its power rating and what it consumes in standbye and then decide how often you use it and if it ever gets turned off

LapTop Computer?
Could anyone tell me what is the best brand laptop i can buy. I have a Toshiba so do you think i should stick with that..
Best brand of laptop? That is really a personal decision. I have a HP, Compaq, Dell, and a Toshiba. If I had it to do all over again, I would only own Toshiba. I have had far less issues with it then the others. If you want the plus and minus of each brand, then:
HP – You are paying for the name but they have some of the most up to date hardware.
Compaq – HP now owns Compaq and uses it as a test bed for the newer hardware. Sometimes it works well and other times there are issues like heating and shorter than normal life expectancies.
Dell – Often they use older technology. However, they do have one of the better support pages for drivers and such.
Gateway – Ran into money problems several years ago. They are not staying with state of the art currently. BUT… they have a great support page just never attempt to do call support.
Toshiba – Not always the newest technology but has one of the best screens on the market. Not always the fastest but will run for years with little or no issues. Not the best support page but OK for most users.
So… my advice? Stick with what you have unless you are having issues or it no longer does everything you NEED it to do.
Good luck,
Z
