PostHeaderIcon How many boxes do Dell use when shipping desktops?

I’ve ordered a new desktop from Dell. It includes the base tower, 18.5inch monitor, keyboard and mouse.

According to the packing slip, there will be a total of 2 boxes.

If this is correct, I’m assuming the keyboard and mouse will come in the box with the tower.

Is this what happens, or would you expect there to be more boxes?

No, that’s about right.

PostHeaderIcon how do you get wireless to your other desktops?

I have wireless already, I need to find out how to get my other desktop to get internet.
Thank you Joe. I believe that helped me.

Ok, so I’m assuming you already have a wireless router and a wireless network setup in your house, with an internet connection connected to the router so that all computers connected to the network can access the internet. For the other desktop to connect to your network it must have a wireless adaptor. Once you are sure it has a working wireless adaptor, open up the wireless settings and find your network. Enter your appropriate network password and it should connect. If you are still having trouble or do not understand part of the above instructions, post more specific questions and we will try to help you from there.

PostHeaderIcon Why do notebook computers come with xp and desktops come with vista?

I have noticed many new notebook PCs come with windows xp installed but all desktop PCs have vista. Why is this?

One reason "XP" takes half the memory of "Vista".
So by installing XP in notebooks saves space etc.

PostHeaderIcon Ubuntu – Is it possible to have 3 different desktops like GNOME, KDE and XFCE on the same machine?

Wikipedia says:
"It is possible to run both the KDE desktop (kubuntu-desktop) as well as the Gnome desktop (ubuntu-desktop) interchangeably on the same machine."

I was wondering if is possible to run more than 2?

Here is an example. If you had a basic Ubuntu installation the default Desktop Environment would be GNOME

To add the KDE Desktop Environment

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

To add the XFCE Desktop Environment

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

Next time you Log in you can then choose which session you want to run GNOME,KDE or XFCE

PostHeaderIcon How do I connect two desktops and one laptop to the internet, wirelessly?

I don’t want to network for file sharing — just internet connection… I do have a Linksys wireless G router.

Connect your Linksys Wireless router to the internet(from ISP). after conencting, it should broadcast the internet and your laptop can automatically connect to it since it has built-in wireless LAN adapter. For you 2 desktops, you can either buy PCI Wireless Adapter Card or a USB wireless LAN adapter. Install the drivers in each computer and your 2 desktops can now connect to the wireless.
