PostHeaderIcon Why are desktops better than laptops at gaming?

i can see why up-to-date desktops are better but my Gateway desktop from like the 90’s runs games better than my laptop i got around april of last year. the gateway is using Windows Professional 2000 and the laptop uses vista.

im not exactly sure what the specs on the gateway are but they can’t be better than the laptop can they?

first of all it depends on the games you’re running, BUT

when compared to laptops, desktops normally have faster processors, more ram, and faster hard drives (up until recently laptop hard drives were limited to 5400rpm where as desktop HDDs have been 7200 rpm or greater for a long time.) On top of that, only the best graphics cards can fit into desktops. hence why desktops run games better than laptops.

the size limitation and heat dissipation problems in laptops prevent them from running the fastest processors and having superior ram amounts. as time goes on, laptops will get closer to desktops, but they will never surpass desktops’ ability to run games.

PostHeaderIcon What types of desktops does not use electronicity?

I know that, Worst are Pentum D and Pentium 4, Core 2duo is good. Are smaller desktop saves money for electricity?

Brand name won’t tell you a great deal, and neither will the model to some extent. A 45nm Pentium D is way more efficient than a 60nm Core 2 Duo. Also, lower clock rates mean the processor runs cooler which means the fan doesn’t need so much power, which is a plus, and desktops with Solid State Drives instead of traditional Hard Disks use FAR less electricity because there are no moving parts. Also, onboard GPU’s are more power efficient than dedicated ones because they don’t need to be cooled seperately, and also because using a powerful card will require you to install like a 700 watt PSU.

PostHeaderIcon Are desktops noisy these days and do they produce a lot of heat?

I’m trying to decide between a laptop and a desktop. Do desktops make a lot of buzzing noises when it’s on, or are the new designs have softer sounds like laptops? Also do you produce a lot of heat? Sometimes if you leave a desktop on too long it can get soo hot!!!

Most premade desktops can be loud, even "gaming ones" cause of the fan.
This can EASILY be fixed by buying a better QUIET fan.
They make fans that move MORE air than cheap fans and have less noise.

Leaving the comptuer on does not make heat, making the computer do work makes heat.
Always keep the computer in an area with space around it, I keep mine out in the MIDDLE of my bedroom… it looks awsome like that.

Laptops do not get too loud cause generally they got terrible GFX cards and have way lower speed CPUs so they run much cooler thus do not need as big of a fan.
