How much can I expect to pay for a replacement motherboard in a desktop pc?
How much can I expect to pay for a replacement motherboard in a desktop pc, specifically Compaq Presario SR 1010NX?
That computer was outdated when it came out. It’s also 5 and a half years old now. Many of the components that this computer uses aren’t in production any more. I’d be willing to be that the replacement cost of the motherboard is going to exceed the value of the computer if you can even find one.
I checked the HP parts website and the motherboard for this computer is no longer sold

How do I remove the Hard drive in my old Windows 98 desktop pc?
I have an old Windows 98 desktop pc that I want to get rid of. Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to remove the hard drive? No links please. I don’t click links…Thanks in advance.
1. Power off the computer;
2. Keep the computer plugged in;
3. Remove the left-side and right-side panels from the computer (this may necessitate removing other panels first, but most cases have a detachable single panel for each side, or a U-shaped case for both sides);
4. Remove the hard drive’s ribbon cable and power connector;
6. Assess whether you can remove the 3.5" bay enclosure from the computer tower itself (if you can, do this and set the enclosure down on top of the power supply);
5. Locate and remove the four (or less) screws securing the drive to its bay;
6. Assess whether you can remove the drive by sliding it forward, or backward (if forward, ensure the way is not blocked by a removable sheetmetal plate or the plastic faceplate on the front).
7. Keeping one hand on the computer frame, grasp the drive by its outer (metal) casing and slide it out partway.
8. Ready an anti-static bag;
9. Still keeping one hand on the frame, grasp the drive by its outer casing and, while avoiding touching the printed circuit board on the underside, slip it into the anti-static bag and tape it shut.
10. Put the anti-static bag into a shock-resistant container (e.g. a box lined with foam rubber, a styrofoam shell sized to fit the drive, or simply wrap it multiple times in bubblewrap.

How can i connect my desktop pc to the linksys wireless 6 meters away?
Hello, I just reinstalled windows xp pro to on my desktop. i want to connect to the wireless internet(at home) via the antenna i have on my pc. The antenna is linksys and so is the wireless router… please help
Your linksys wireless adapter, I’m going to assume it’s external and connects via USB. When you plug it in, Windows will automatically detect the device and try to find software to instally the device. If it can’t find it, you should find the disc that came with your adapter and install with that.
Once you have the software installed, then you should be able to access a wireless network menu down by your clock, right click on that and there should be a view networks or connect to networks type message (not sure of the exact wording).
Once in there find a network named Linksys, there likely will only be one, but if there is more than one, pick the one with the best signal. Then hit connect and you should be on in about 30 seconds.
P.S. You might consider securing your network to keep people on the outside from getting in. http://www.datastronghold.com/security-articles/general-security-articles/wireless-router–security-a-step-by-step-guide.html
