How do i turn my desktop PC into a phone?
I use Tiscali broadband which provides me with free phone calls at any time. I have an adsl filter on my telephone line so that i can connect my computer to it. In the back of my pc are several USB ports and an Ethernet port.
What i want to be able to do is use my desktop microphone & speakers built into the pc & dial people either from software or by clicking or by clicking on the telephone icon in MS Outlook Contacts.
I know that i can use SKYPE but why use that (& pay extra) when i may be able to use my exisiting phone line where i can get free calls anyway.
The ‘unhelpful’ staff in PC World tell me that there’s nothing i can do & i’ll have to use SKYPE & pay for the calls but i seem, to remember that my PC 10yrs ago had a phone dialler in the Accessories section.
Please help me prove the PC World staff wrong!
You can but you have to get some hardware to interface between your PC and your phone line. Some (old fashion dial-up) modems can handle voice as well as data calls so see if you have one on the back of your PC.

what voltage should a power supply unit create in a desktop pc?
I have a desktop pc, I am trying to fix, it won’t boot. I have checked the voltage ariving at the hard drive on an it is 6.5 volts, on my other working pc the voltage is 10.5 volts. Does this mean that the power supply unit is broken? What voltage should it produce?
12v on one the yellow wire.
5v on the red one. (or maybe the other way around)
If its more than 1v out then its definately broken.

This is all thanks to Sony and Linux. There are more Lynxes that you can install on your PS3, but he best one is Yellow Dog Linux. YDL is not used for other purposes, just for this and is special made for this reason and is the best for it. I saw that Ubuntu can be a good deal, but anyway is not nearly match able like Yellow Dog Linux. You get more than 2200 applications within YDL. It is a great combination.

My Desktop PC shows harddisk used space way too much than I think I am using. How do I correct this?
I have Desktop PC running on only Operating System Windows xp. The total installed programs are taking 4 GB harddisk space. I am having 40 GB harddisk.
But the C:\Documents and Settings folder shows 21 GB space used.
I checked individual folder of C:\Documents and Settings. But this shows very small space occupied. (I have show hidden files & folders checked in Folder Options)
I run norton anti virus regularly and it does not show any virus/spyware.
How do I find out what is using up all my hard disk space?

How do I share files between my Desktop PC and my Laptop?
The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium (Model: G60-445DX)
The Desktop PC is running Windows XP Media Center (Model: A1430n)
Both computers are 32bit.
They are on the same network.
How do I share files between the two?
Best I’ve found is Dropbox. You can set it up in less than 5 minutes, and best of all it’s free. That way you can put your files onto a secure server on the Internet and just download them whenever you need them on the other computer.
