PostHeaderIcon Why does vista desktop freeze at start up?

I have a Toshiba P300-1FN. Vista loads right up to the desktop but then freezes for ages. I can load vista in a reasonable time but when the desktop loads it freezes and no programs (like firefox) open. Also the Wi-Fi connection takes along time to connect at start up.

The most likely cause is a bloated registry which has become the home for all kinds of useless bits and pieces of data. Whenever any change is made to the system settings or a program is installed or uninstalled, a new entry is generated in the registry. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There is a multitude of useless bits and pieces to be removed.Parts of uninstalled programs, parts of incompletely installed programs, dead drivers and many other things. clean your registry and remove all the useless data fragments and no longer needed information to fix the freeze error! I should like to commend Registry Easy http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!

PostHeaderIcon What is the price range for a good gaming computer?

I’ve been interested in gaming for quite a while, and wanted to start playing games on Steam.
But, this computer I have now is creeping towards 9 years old, and is generally slow, and running out of hard drive space.

So, can anyone suggest any good computers, or the price range of such computers?

iBuyPower, Alienware are two good companies. Don’t get a laptop, that is a waste. Don’t get a mac, either, they aren’t good for gaming.
The price range is anywhere from 900-2,300 USD

PostHeaderIcon How do i connect 2 laptops to the internet?

I have a house computer and a laptop. The internet goes to my computer to router to laptop. I am getting rid of my computer and getting another laptop…so how will the internet go to both my laptops, withouth the house computer?

I am guessing your modem connects to your desktop using USB and that is why you dont have the modem connected straight to the routers WAN Port.

If your modem can use a ethernet cable then connect it staright to the router and setup the router to connect to the internet. If the modem only uses USB then you will either need to connect it exactly how you have it now or get a modem that can use a ethernet connection.

PostHeaderIcon How did my notebook PC damage my desktop PC monitor?

I placed my notebook computer in front of my desktop PC monitor with the desktop PC monitor switched off. I used my laptop for about 6 hours. When I switched my desktop PC monitor back on, I noticed two large spots of color (one blue, one purple — both with gray edges) on my desktop PC monitor. What happened and is there any way to erase the spots?

Assuming you do not have a flat LCD monitor but a CRT (big Tube) , it is showing the effects of being placed to close to an AC electrical field. A magnet or exposure to close Alternating Current electricity will change the orientation of phosphers inside the CRT creating all kinds of colorful and unwanted effects. The Cure is "De-Gaussing" this is done using a coil that has AC running through it. It essentially radomizes the phosphers back to where they will light up properly… this is also how magnetic tape is erased… and unfortunately the same will happen to your ATM card if placed too close to a magnet or AC field… some monitors have a "De-Gaussing" button as this is an old known issue. If it becomes too bad,(leave them together for a couple weeks) it can be impossible to get rid of

PostHeaderIcon Setting up high-performance computer components from Maxxarcade

Thanks so much to Maxxarcade for sending me these components! There is a Supermicro motherboard with 2GHz Opteron chip, SATA hard drive, RAM sticks, sound card, and power supply. This is the first time I ever completely disassembled a computer and retrofitted a new motherboard in. The performance is AMAZING. It is able to play HD Youtube videos. See part 2 for a demonstration of the video performance.
