PostHeaderIcon I need help connecting a personal computer and a laptop computer to the internet via wireless?

What type of equipment do I need to connect 2 computers (1 personal computer and 1 laptop to the internet ? I have the Windows Vista program. Do I need a certain type of router and a wireless adaptor for the laptop ?

You need a wireless router. The desktop can be connected by straightwiring while only the notebook will be wireless. If it is a relatively new laptop it should have a wireless adapter built into it, if not you will have to buy one (they are easily installed).

You may want to find out from the company you get your service from which router works best with their service or they may have one you can get from them (for a monthly fee).

I use a linksys and have had very few problems.

PostHeaderIcon what to do after assembling the computer components?

what do you do after you install all the components in a computer? do u install operating system first?Mother board? please take me step by step if u can. im a newbie at this stuff.

Cross your fingers and hit the power button. make sure your fans. especially your cpu fan are working. Hit delete upon startup to go into bios and have it boot off your CD and check your harddrive settings and enable your LAN so the OS installation will see it and install drivers for it(it doesn’t always do that–sometimes you have to use the motherboard CD) Make sure you have Enhanced hard drive drivers ready on a CD or DVD for Vista–floppy for XP) , XP will have you hit F6 if you have drivers then it will ask you to insert the floppy, Vista will just have you put the disc in. Check temps of cpu while in bios. Slip the operating CD in and turn puter off then back on. A prompt"hit any key to boot from CD" will come up–hit a key and you’re on your way. The install will walk you thru partitioning and formatting the hard drive then will start installing the OS. After the Windows install begins Windows will reboot several times automatically and that "hit ant key to boot from CD" prompt will come up again. Dont hit a key. You only hit a key and boot off the CD the first time. Just let the computer boot off the hard drive and continue the installation. I don’t know if you’ve ever installed XP or ME before but I thought I’d tell you that when installing Vista you will get a black screen for long times sometimes 30 seconds–thats normal. Always a good idea to have a puter with internet access around so you can access the net if you need to to look something up if you run into probs. You can install your audio drivers etc off the motherboard CD after you get the OS in. Then your antivirus and then set up your internet go online and download tons of Windows updates. I wouldn’t even bother with the video drivers that come with the card but go to ATI or Nvidia and download and install the latest ones. Have fun.

PostHeaderIcon What’s the best laptop PC for watching video?

I’m trying to find out which laptop PC (Windows-based) is the best for watching video, particularly streaming video. What kinds of processor speeds, memory, etc, are particularly well-suited for video?

Anything laptop on the market now will work. If you’re watching from the laptop then I’d get the one with the biggest screen. Good video cards will help but if you’re just watching streaming then the quality of the stream will affect the way the video looks way more then the machine will. If you’re watching netflix then your internet speed dictates the video quality.
If you want specs anything dualcore or higher
2gbs of ram or higher
any hard drive
Any video card on the market will play video…now if you are a GAMER I’d suggest a video card with 256mb of ram or higher.

PostHeaderIcon How can I share music from my desktop to my wireless laptop?

My cd burner quit working on my desktop but all my music is on my desktop. How can I get the music from my desktop on my laptop so I can burn some cd’s. Please explain the process step by step. Thank you.

Well there are a LOT of variable’s to this question but I’ll do my best, assuming you already have a home network set up. First you need to go to the folder that holds your music, the one you want to share. Right click on it and select properties, there is a tab on the box that opens up called "sharing" click on this tab and click on the box that says "share this folder". Click OK, or apply and exit out of there. Next, go to your laptop and open up "my network places", you should see the folder you just shared out located there if you have a home network that is set up. I hope this works, based on the limited information that’s the best I can do. If it doesn’t, let us know what kind of network you are using, what operating systems are on both computers and some more details, anyway, hope this helped.

PostHeaderIcon How do I get a gaming license in las vegas? I have a valid Vegas drivers license but had to move to California

How do I get a gaming license in las vegas? I have a valid Vegas drivers license but had to move to California last month because I’m on disability and medacaid doesn’t cover seizure medication in Nevada. Now I’m trying to start a business and move back but wondering about all of the licenses. Anyone know?

Getting a gaming license in NV is extremely difficult and expensive. If you are on disability and don’t have access to a silver mine forget about it. Got a spare 1M????

PostHeaderIcon How to hook laptop and desktop pc at home?

To have a laptop and my desktop computer have working internet at home what do I need? Just a wireless router? As of right now I only have internet on my desktop pc but I am also thinking about getting a laptop. Or if I get a 2nd desktop pc do I only need a regular router?

A wireless router is definitely the way to go. Any laptop these days will have wireless, not to mention smart phones and other devices.

You can usually plug at least 4 PCs (or other network devices) into most routers. Your 2nd PC could connect to it with a cable if it’s convenient, which is faster, or via wireless.
